And The Winners Are...

So, first off, I just want to thank everyone who entered this contest. When I initially came up with the idea, I was hoping for maybe 30 entrants and I would have considered it a success. Well, I ended up with way more than 30--final count was somewhere near 135. Amazing!

And, because everyone was so excited about the prospect of being forever remembered in a book, I not only expanded this contest by adding one more winner but I've also decided to run this contest for every new book I release, both in the Jolie Wilkins series but also in the Dulcie O'Neil series, as well. And, for any new series I dream up!

So, having said that, if you would like to be alerted whenever a new book is on its way so you can enter the "become a character" contest, just add yourself to my email distro list by visiting my website at www.hpmallory.com and click the "contact" tab.

OK, let's get down to business!!!

I am beyond thrilled to first announce the winner of the original character contest. This character is:

* integral to the storyline
* mentioned in Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble
* will play a part in all future books in the Jolie Wilkins series

Just a reminder as to what the winner will receive:

And the winner of this character is...

MERCEDES BERG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congratulations, Mercedes! I am so happy for you and I can't wait to touch base and send you my questionnaire to find out all about you!!!

But, wait, there's more!

As I mentioned above, I was so amazed by the response to this contest, that I decided to add another character. This character:

* Is the reason for Rand's anger towards Sinjin!!!!!

Interview with Knight

Surprise for contest entrants!

OK so I've had this surprise for a while but I am really bad at keeping surprises to myself and I can't wait until the 31st to tell all of you so...

Because of the amazing response to my contest in which the winner becomes a character in my new book, Toil and Trouble, I've decided to offer up one more character in that book. So, now you'll have two chances to win! Yay!

And, I also started my list of questions for each winner to help me write you into my book.

If you're interested, here are the questions so far. I'll be sending emails back and forth with the winners to further nail their personalities and the way they would react to situations but here's what I've got so far:

What is your full name?

Are you male or female?

Do you have a nickname?

What is your nationality?

Do you have an accent?

Can you speak more than one language? If so, what languages can you speak?

How tall are you?

How old are you?

What hair and eye color do you have?

How long is your hair?

Can you play an instrument?

What is your favorite color?

Would you consider yourself shy or outgoing?

Can you characterize what you are like when meeting someone for the first time?

Do you have a favorite phrase or phrases that you say often?

If you are a woman, are you more feminine or more tomboyish?

What is your best feature, physically?

What is the best feature to your personality?

How would you describe yourself? (anything that comes to mind. This could be just brainstorming words)

Do you like animals? If so, what animal is your favorite?

What are your hobbies?

Are you athletically inclined?

I'm getting so excited! I can't wait to see who wins!!!!

Contest ending soon!

Just a reminder that the contest to become a character in my next release, Toil and Trouble, ends on Sat! The winner will be drawn on Halloween Sunday, October 31. And I have an extra surprise with regard to the contest but I’m not going to say anything yet! LOL
Some more good news, 2 of my alpha readers have read the first 10 chapters of Toil and Trouble and reported that they enjoyed the first 10 chapters immensely, even going so far as to say they liked them better than Fire Burn! I’m ecstatic. I still need to send over the next 5 chapters as soon as I massage them and hopefully they’ll enjoy these chapters just as much. LOL
Hope everyone is having a fab Monday.

Wow, love you Barnes and Noble!

So, I uploaded my books to Barnes and Noble on the 12th of October and it was pretty silent on the Nook front for maybe a week. Then B&N started ranking me #1 for the search query "Paranormal Romance" and I don't know how it happened, but somehow I've managed to climb to rank 137 for Fire Burn and 150 for Warlock. And I'm not sure what the B&N universe is but when I started my rank was 50,000 so that's a pretty huge jump.

I literally am amazed. I can't believe how well my books are doing! Such an amazing feeling!!! I am so thrilled to be an indie author and I wish I'd taken this step a long time ago. But, better late than never, right?

Today is such an amazing day for authors who have been snubbed by New York publishing houses. Now, it's readers who determine an author's worth, not agents or publishers and that is awesome news! You can demand what it is you want to read, not have to settle for what New York gives you!!!

Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note to let you know that I've just launched a new and expanded website. It has lots of fun stuff on it like FAQs, reviews, free downloads and a section of fun stuff like pictures of Rand's house, his car, and the fairy forest where Jolie first meets Odran.
I plan on adding more pics since everyone seems to love them.
Check it out and let me know what you think!

I am amazed!

Wow, I can't believe the response to this contest!

When I came up with the idea about a week ago, I thought it was pretty cool but wasn't sure everyone else would think it was cool. Probably because I was a bit biased--when I was about 12 or so, I used to write stories with my best friend where we were heroines in romantic novels featuring pirates, cowboys, you name it. LOL I never really grew out of that! So, I thought the contest would be fun from a personal perspective (something I would want to enter) but never realized how wide the appeal would be!

I can't believe that in less than 2 days, I have 62 entrants or something crazy.

So fun!!! I've decided to do this for all my future books. I just think it is such an awesome way to get word out there about my books and to do something cool for my readers. And as an indie author who only has herself to rely on aka no big marketing department in New York, this is just...the coolest!

So, thank you to everyone who entered and if you haven't entered yet, there's still time! The contest ends Oct 30th! You can enter here: Contest

The next Jolie book, Toil and Trouble

So, I just wanted to share with everyone that I finished writing chapter 13 of Toil and Trouble, Jolie's next book.

And I loved writing this chapter!! Without giving away too much, something happens that lots of you will appreciate, I believe. And it was so much fun to finally put down on paper.

Again, the release date for this book is Jan 1. So, if you haven't signed up for my distro list to get emails whenever new books come out, you can do so by clicking here:
Sign up for HP's Distro List

And, I have to admit that while I love love love Rand, Sinjin is really growing on me. He plays a much larger role in Toil and Trouble than he did in Fire Burn.

OK, before I give away too much, I'll sign off. LOL

What do you think of this???

OK took everyone's advice...what do you think?

Warlock Cover Part 2

So, I really liked all the comments about the Warlock cover and thought I’d start a new post to button down what I should change because I want to incorporate some areas of the new cover and some areas of the old one.

So, if you can please tell me the following, I’d appreciate it.

Here are the two images again:

Version A:

Version B:

Which do you prefer between version A (old) and version B (new):

The title font / color / background of title text (aka the black background vs. the grainy background)

The title itself—should it be the book’s name or my name?

The background color—pink vs. purple

Should the moon be white or pink

The treatment of the text on the bottom—which text treatment do you prefer?

Thank you for helping me with it. I think I’m almost there but I just haven’t quite nailed it.
